Adventures at Home

Travel is about mindset, not location.

I’m trying to bring the CrazyTraveler sense of adventure to life at home.  This means not just schlepping my kids with me on international adventures, but also intentionally creating adventures locally. We are lucky to live just outside Washington DC, so its not that hard to find adventure.

Fun and unusual family adventures we’ve had locally:

  • Went to DC United games and sat in the section with the loud drumming
  • Went to plays and musicals at the Kennedy Center, the Warner Theatre, Olney Theatre
  • Ate tapas on 14th street
  • Found DC’s best acai bowls
  • Explored local farmers markets across DC, MD and VA
  • Went to a horse show in Culpeper VA
  • Visited Monocacy battlefield
  • Explored Gettysburg
  • Sailed on the Chesapeake Bay
  • Saw the water lillies in Kenilworth Gardens
  • Ate Italian food in Baltimore’s Little Italy
  • Hiked the canal and Billy Goat Trail
  • Experienced “living history” at the Claude Moore farm off the GW Parkway
  • Went to a halloween-fest at Six Flags
  • 10:55pm frozen yogurt runs to get there before the 11pm close
  • Eaten the “chocolate pinata” at our local Mexican restaurant
  • Road a tandem bike in our neighborhood
  • Went to dinner theatre in Hagerstown (Addam’s Family Values) and Columbia (Mary Poppins)
  • Kayaked in Georgetown and at the new SW Wharf
